Reagan's "A Time For Choosing" speech if done today would be right on the mark. It's amazing how truth stands the test of time.

2008: a new course
This State has not moved forward in anyway since Arnold took office. Californians thought they were electing a problem solver that would "blow up boxes" and end the fiscal crisis that both the past Democratic Governor and for a larger part an entrenched Democratic Legislature had created with their long term trends of overspending and over regulating this State. Instead, Arnold morphed into Democrat with a Republican face. Years later and into Arnold's second term it is painfully obvious that Arnold is part of the same problem that he was suppose to remedy. As of now we are facing a worse financial crisis that can only be blamed on the irresponsible inaction of our leaders. Accounting tricks and political grandstanding cannot hide the fact that the Democrats have only one course set for California: The continued growth of government and and an inabilty to make any real cuts that solves the long term deficit issue. The solution from these leaders will be to close loopholes, expand regulation, and tax the most productive people of California in order to reduce the deficit. In a State that has been ravaged by the real estate bubble and is teetering towards recession now is the worst time to leech a higher percentage of money from the private sector. What is needed is new leadership and a new course. This time we cannot be fooled by false messengers like Arnold. A new strategy must be employed to change the powerful entrenched foothold that the Liberal Democrats have in Sacramento. They have been in power for decades and during their watch this State has gone downhill in most measurable areas such as education, traffic, business environment, infrastructure upgrades and maintainence just to name a few. This down hill skid will continue and new courses and ideas will not be put into action unless there is a shake up in Sacramento. Unfortunately those in power have made the rules to keep themselves in power. Gerrymandering of election districts using highly sophisticated computer aided models based on voting records has created a deadlock of safe seats that guarantees the Democrats their power base into perpituity. The proof is in the lack of turnover election cycle after election cycle.Under current curcumstaces there is no hope of a major shift of power and therefore no hope that a policy shift to correct this State's course will take place. We are stuck with the same rotten leaders and the Democratic election process has been perverted by the staus quo of safe seats. As a result any debate pertaining to new courses for California are moot until the core issue of power change or transitions has been addressed. Is now the time to change the political landscape and end this gerrymandered defacto Democratic dictatorship? It should be the number one priority for the Republican party at the State and local level otherwise the GOP is just spinning the wheels of change to a destination to nowhere.
